“...sometimes the little guy can win, if he has science, reason and perseverance on his side”

BridgeKeepers, the West Montrose Residents Association won it's fight against Capital Paving's proposal to open a gravel pit near West Montrose near Elmira. A core group of Bridgekeepers met every week for 5 years to oppose Capital Paving's plans to mine aggregate near wetlands and a historic covered bridge in the village. On August 9th Capital Paving withdrew their application.

Tony Dowling, a spokesman for BridgeKeepers, says it's difficult to measure the work that goes into fighting a proposal. He gives full marks to the diligence with which Woolwich Council pursued their responsibilities.
